Modern Landmark Working Family
Something I recall about my years as a private secretary/personal assistant, was the caring and molly coddling I was expected to do for the boss and his wife. I must say though that because of the way I was brought up, in a family where our mother was a very definite contributor to the family income and existence, none of it seemed in any way wrong. Our father had been a military man and served his time, eventually coming out after twenty years or so very happy but varied tours of duty. This gave rise to our mother keeping her position as a much valued private secretary to a very important business leader of the day. There was never any suggestion that she should not be working because a) she was married, or b) there were children in tow. How very modern – if only we’d known what a landmark family we were!
